The Gospel

At Fountain of Life we believe that it’s not just what you believe that is important, but what is emphasized. We want to emphasize what is called “the gospel”

The Apostle Paul wrote this:

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received” 1 Cor. 15.3; ESV

Though there are many things that are important, there is something that is “of first importance,” or the most important. The following verses show us that Paul is talking about the gospel.

Gospel means “good news”, and this news is the best. Paul continues,

3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive...

So, what is the gospel?

The gospel is the good news of Jesus - it’s the truth of who Jesus is and what He has done.

Jesus is the Christ - the promised divine King prophesied by the Scriptures of the Old Testament. He is the eternal Son of God who became human in order to fulfill all of God’s promises and save His people from their sin.

The reality is that all people are sinners. We've denied the obvious ultimate reality of who God is and have sold out to sad alternatives for identity, hope, truth, and meaning. We’re under both the destructive power of sin and the just penalty we deserve for our sin, the wrath of a Holy God. We need a Savior.

The good news is that Jesus is the perfect Savior who came to save sinners. Here’s what He’s done:

  • He lived a perfect life in our place.
  • He died on the cross as our substitute - the sinless one took our sin.
  • He rose from the dead in victory showing that His life and death worked. He saved His people.

The icing on the cake of the good news is that you can have all the benefits of the gospel completely by faith. Give up on making yourself right with God by your own good works. They’re not good enough. Give up on following false gods (self, money, status, etc...) and repent - turn to Jesus Christ and rely completely on Him to make you right with God and give you all you need for life.

The good news is that Jesus - who He is and what He is has done - is enough. He is all we need for identity, hope, truth and meaning. He has bought our adoption into God’s family and secured our eternal joy.
