Family Church

Family Church

At its core, Family Church is designed to equip and encourage parents in the essential task of discipling their own children.
In practice, Family Church helps the Family feel like a Church and the Church feel like a Family.
Further Description
Family Church is a unique program for any family with children in the 7-17 year old range. At FOLF, we sincerely affirm the biblical view that parents are the primary teachers of their own children and that the family unit is the foundational place for Christian discipleship. (Deuteronomy 6:4-25) Therefore, Family Church is designed to embrace whole families -- whatever ages and individuals God has placed together as a family unit. At FOLF, we also recognize that it is challenging for many Christian parents to prioritize discipleship as they desire. Therefore, Family Church supplies practical materials and friendly accountability to parents.
What We Are Studying
Each year, our Children's Ministry Coordinators selects study material for families to dive into together at home. Families are given a schedule for reading and discussion, and each family adjusts that material as is best for their family and children throughout the month at home. All families then meet together review, encouragement, and fellowship.
This year (September 2023 through June 2024) we will be working through Foundations Worldview Curriculum's "How to Study the Bible Curriculum."
A great overview of this curriculum can be watched in a video here:

When We Meet
Family church currently meets once per month on Sundays from 4-6 pm in the church courtyard and field.

What a Meeting is Like
Typically, we kick off the evening with an all-ages field game in our spacious church field. Kickball and "sharks & minnows" are regular favorites. Next, we gather for some dinner and informal fellowship on the patio. Finally, we move to a time of more focused conversation in which families offer chapter summaries from the previous month's study and then we break into small groups for additional discussion and prayer. Childcare is provided for the youngest children during this final portion of the meeting.
